Liability Claims Examiner

We are currently seeking a Senior Liability Claims Examiner with a minimum of 15 years' experience handling construction defect claims and advanced knowledge in handling large-scale developer litigated cases. Requirements include extensive experience working directly with insureds and executive-level management to address, manage, negotiate, and resolve multimillion-dollar claims. This role requires strong familiarity and comfort working with various developers, OCIP, excess, and other related policies. Strong writing skills, coverage analysis and evaluation, experience liaising with coverage and defense counsel, mediators, and retained experts are essential. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and manage commercial general liability construction defect claims.
  • Interpret policy language and analyze/evaluate complex coverage issues involving tract homes, condominium, and townhome association CC&Rs, common areas/elements and related matters.
  • Manage reserves, accounting, and tracking of repair costs and expenses, including approval and issuance of expense and indemnity payments, SIR erosion monitoring, and other related matters.
  • Work closely with carriers, including obtaining and extending various authorities as warranted, and facilitate the effective resolution of claims in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with fair claims practices, while staying current on applicable state/territory regulations and relevant case law.
  • Utilizes negotiating skills to resolve claims;
  • Works with attorneys, account representatives, agents and insureds regarding the handling and/or disposition of claims;
  • Keeps current on state/territory regulations as well as industry activity and trends.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Extensive experience handling large, multi-party developer claims.
  • Current adjuster licenses in multiple states preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make critical business decisions effectively.
