What We Offer

This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work 1-10 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The target pay for this position is $19.29. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. This on-call position is grant funded until September 2026 with a high likelihood of renewal. Location & Schedule The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. The home base for this position will be the Webb Building (201 W Colfax) . However, i n this position you can expect to work virtually and in-person across multiple sites and community events in the Denver area . Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. Here at the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, we believe young people are the experts in their communities and how youth move around them, and therefore belong at the table to lead and inform policies, programs, and projects that affect them and their peers. Teen Safe Streets is a youth-led program to promote transportation safety, educate about bicycle/pedestrian/transit mobility and teen driving safety and laws like the Graduated Drivers’ License.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a small team to complete projects, organize events, and conduct outreach/education regarding active living, youth engagement, and safe transportation (transit, bike, walk, roll, scoot and drive)
  • Recruit youth and community members to participate in events and activities about safety, and accessibility toward transportation safety and equity
  • Plan and host regular meetings for Teen Safe Streets
  • Help organize, lead, and participate in community engagement efforts, including meetings, focus groups, media/marketing, community art projects, Safe Routes to School, Vision Zero, and Community Active Living Coalition projects, walks and bike rides, trainings, and community events
  • Participate in planning and research with peers, collecting data to provide perspective and ideas for programs, activities, events, and social media

Requirements

  • Live, work, or go to school in the City & County of Denver
  • Desire to improve biking, walking, scooting transit and driving experiences of local teens , and advocating for equitable and safe access for all
  • Available to work occasional weekends or evenings for community events or meetings with other youth
  • Requires flexible schedule and strong, consistent communication skills
  • Ability to get around the Denver metro area
  • Fourteen (14) to twenty-five (25) years of age. By position, specific age restrictions may be applied within this age range.

Nice-to-haves

  • Multi-lingual (speak additional languages) and/or multi-modal (travel by multiple methods: bike, walk, scoot, transit, car), is a plus but not required!
