The Change Safety Governance team safeguards critical systems by guiding system owners through risk management for complex, interconnected architectures. We review, approve, and audit Change Safety Strategy (CSS) documents from inception to deployment. Partnering with Engineering and SRE, we analyze change risks to help leadership prioritize mitigation work, while chairing the committee that maintains our global Reliability Standards. Shape the future of our cutting-edge products You will analyze documented change processes operating on one of the largest distributed systems in the world with the aim of making it even more reliable. As an Architect in TRG - Change Safety Governance, you will be responsible for: Researching and learning how Akamai's platforms, products, services, and systems work and how they impact each other. Reviewing and approve change strategies across Akamai. Partnering with SMEs to analyze technical details, ask safety-oriented questions, and identify system improvements. Identifying, analysing, and reporting safety risks. Work with executives and system owners to ensure prioritised risk mitigation is completed. Working with system owners and change process SMEs to help them develop and modify change safety strategies through the review process Collaborating with Architects, Researchers, and Engineers to maintain Reliability Standards and analyze and review systems against those established standards. Do what you love To be successful in this role you will: Possess 8+ of relevant experience and education in computer science or another research-focused science field. Apply systems thinking to reason about complex architectures and identify key risk factors without needing all low-level details Demonstrate solid knowledge of IP networks, DNS, routing, and communication protocols like HTTP, TCP, and UDP. Understand basic computer configurations, including operating systems, containers, and encrypted communications. Research and analyze technical materials independently, including design documents, specifications, RFCs, and unfamiliar code to improve systems. Communicate effectively through written documentation, presentations, and meetings while clearly expressing complex ideas.
