Bookkeeper (Remote)

Numbers in Boxes Is Growing! Numbers in Boxes manages finance operations for women-owned businesses and nonprofits. We work with incredible clients across B2B services, artisan e-commerce, consulting, and the nonprofit sector. We're looking for a reliable, curious, detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our remote team. This position will begin part-time (approximately 20–25 hours per week) with the expectation of growing into a full-time role as both the company and the successful candidate grow with us. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys solving problems, working directly with clients, learning new systems, and helping create better ways of working. What You'll Do

  • Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts
  • Enter and manage bills using QuickBooks Online, and other systems
  • Create and manage client invoices
  • Prepare and review financial reports
  • Manipulate and analyze data in Microsoft Excel
  • Communicate with clients via email, phone, and Zoom
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve bookkeeping issues
  • Document procedures and maintain accurate records
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reduce manual work, and increase efficiency
  • Learn and adopt new technology, software platforms, and operational systems
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the company

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience working with QuickBooks Online
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a remote environment
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills
  • Comfortable interacting with clients and colleagues via Zoom
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
  • Ability to ask questions, seek support, and collaborate effectively
  • Comfortable learning new technology and adapting to evolving systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or related fields
  • Knowledge of accrual accounting, payroll accounting, nonprofit accounting, and journal entries
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online in a professional setting
  • Experience with BILL (Bill.com) or similar accounts payable software
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and data analysis
  • Experience documenting procedures and improving workflows
  • Experience using automation or workflow software to improve efficiency
  • Experience working in a client-service environment

Schedule

  • 20-25 hours per week
  • PT with the potential to move into FT
  • Remote within the United States (not in CA or NY)
