  • Mission-Driven Culture – Our mission is simple: Bring pride and passion back to practicing anesthesia.

The PAT Nurse's Impact As a PAT Nurse at Symmetry, you are more than a nurse completing preoperative assessments—you are the captain helping patients navigate their surgical journey. By identifying potential issues early, coordinating care, and ensuring patients are prepared for surgery, you help prevent delays, improve outcomes, and create a smoother experience for patients, providers, and facilities alike. Every successful surgical day starts long before the patient arrives in the operating room. Your work helps make that possible. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Assessment & Preparation

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-anesthesia and preoperative assessments via telephone, telehealth, or in-person encounters.
  • Obtain and review patient medical, surgical, anesthesia, medication, allergy, and social histories.
  • Screen patients for anesthesia-related risk factors, including cardiac, pulmonary, endocrine, neurologic, and airway concerns.
  • Assess patients using established protocols to determine readiness for anesthesia and surgery.
  • Review laboratory results, diagnostic studies, and medical records for completeness and compliance with facility requirements.

Care Coordination

  • Coordinate required medical, cardiac, pulmonary, and specialty clearances.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, CRNAs, surgeons, scheduling teams, and facility personnel to address identified concerns.
  • Escalate complex medical issues to anesthesia leadership for review and determination of perioperative readiness.
  • Ensure all required documentation is obtained and available prior to the scheduled procedure date.
  • Facilitate communication between patients and providers regarding preoperative requirements.

Patient Education

  • Educate patients regarding:
  • Preoperative instructions
  • Medication management
  • Fasting guidelines (NPO status)
  • Arrival times and procedural expectations
  • Postoperative considerations
  • Answer patient questions and address concerns regarding anesthesia and surgical preparation.
  • Reinforce facility-specific and anesthesia-specific instructions to improve compliance and patient satisfaction.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Track and document outstanding testing, clearances, and follow-up requirements.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Participate in initiatives designed to reduce surgery cancellations and delays.
  • Assist with development and implementation of PAT workflows and best practices.
  • Monitor and report trends related to preoperative readiness and patient outcomes.
  • Support Symmetry quality, patient safety, and operational performance goals.

Requirements

  • Experience in Pre-Admission Testing, Perioperative Services, PACU, ICU, ER, or Surgical Services.
  • Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) or related specialty certification.
  • Experience working with anesthesia providers and surgical scheduling processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform computer-based work for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Ability to review and interpret clinical documentation and diagnostic results.
