Overview

GIS Data Technician II (PT) - Remote, US at Bowman Consulting Bowman has an opportunity for a GIS Data Technician (PT) to join our team remotely in the US. Purpose The GIS Technician II is responsible for final processing and quality control of mapping products including project set-up with process descriptions, translators, directory organization, and data archiving to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations. Work with a multi-disciplinary team of field staff and other technicians to review survey and utility data collected in the field for accuracy and completeness. May conduct field visits and process audits.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Direction Perform work under moderate supervision. Receive direction on moderately complex assignments, tasks, and execution. Work is frequently reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.
  • Operational Collaboration Coordinate and collaborate across the organization to increase efficiencies and establish best practices. Develop, document, maintain and improve processes and procedures.
  • Data Management and Processing
  • Convert data from initial collection format through various editing stages to final delivery format, ensuring consistency and readiness for client use.
  • Maintain organized data directories, ensuring a clean and efficient workspace for ease of access and productivity.
  • Review all project-related data files; collect, organize, and prepare historical project data for archiving, preserving work integrity and facilitating future references.
  • Utilize ESRI software and established workflows to process datasets for delivery.
  • Quality Control
  • Conduct geometry (topology) quality control checks to validate data accuracy and integrity using GIS software.
  • Perform attribution quality control checks to ensure data attributes are precise and meet project specifications.
  • Project and Workflow Coordination
  • Prioritize job requests based on project deadlines to optimize workflow and ensure timely progress.
  • Notify department Lead or Director of any project-related issues to align quality objectives with timelines.
  • Maintain up-to-date status reports and tracking mechanisms on all projects to provide transparency and progress updates.
  • Product Development and Delivery
  • Create high-quality final products for client delivery, ensuring work aligns with quality standards for first-time client acceptance.
  • Guarantee on-time final delivery of products, emphasizing adherence to project timelines and client expectations.
  • Standards and Documentation Compliance
  • Adhere to ISO documentation to uphold global standards within project activities.
  • Develop comprehensive metadata for all datasets to facilitate user understanding and future applicability of geographic data.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Ensure all completed work meets defined quality standards with a focus on first-time acceptance by clients.
  • Engage in continuous improvement by providing feedback on quality control processes and refining departmental standards. Success Metrics and Competencies

  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in Geography or related GIS field preferred. Combination of coursework and experience considered in lieu of degree(s).
  • Three or more (3+) years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably in geospatial field.
  • One (1) year experience with ESRI ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro required; 2+ years preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI products; proficient in ArcGIS software, geodatabase concepts, and editing tools.
  • Proficient in data management, mapping techniques and methods; proficient reading of utility maps, plans, and as-built drawings.
  • Proficient understanding of AutoCAD, basic GPS techniques, land planning, and zoning; familiar with CAD software such as MicroStation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and priorities based on client needs; familiarity with LIDAR processing is a plus.
