About the position Under general supervision, develop curriculum for and teach a wide range of human services courses in face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online learning environments and perform other related work as assigned. Related work activities include, but are not limited to, advising and counseling students; responding to student inquiries in a timely manner; assisting in program, division, and campus-related student activities; Actively participate in faculty and administrative committees; Actively participate in program, division, college, and community/public service; Develop and maintain professional self-improvement plans; Collect data and prepare reports; Prepare, create, and revise Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to meet CLOs; Conduct course assessment and other evaluations of instruction based on CLOs, Course Evaluation Surveys, and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to improve outcomes; Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments; Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments Requirements
  • Master’s in Human Services; OR Master’s in Social Work, Public Health or Counseling and 3 years field (work/internship) experience in social services or counseling; OR Bachelors in Human Services and 3 years of experience in social services or counseling; OR Bachelor’s in Social Work, Public Health or Counseling and 5 years of experience in social service or counseling.
  • Degrees and credits must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment. Nice-to-haves
  • Licensed clinician in a behavioral-mental health discipline (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, Psychologist).
  • Experience offering individual and group counseling with mental health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) clients
  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) credential in Hawai‘i and familiarity with credentialing pathways.
  • Professional experience in substance use treatment/recovery contexts (including co-occurring disorders), curriculum development, and/or fieldwork supervision.
  • Experience teaching adult learners in community-college, certificate, or workforce-training settings; experience with virtual/hybrid delivery preferred.
  • Strong program coordination skills managing learner advisement, fieldwork placements, data/outcomes/tracking, and external partnerships.
  • Familiarity with the CO-SUDS Counseling program mission, Hawai‘i behavioral-health ecosystem (state/private treatment agencies), and SUD workforce development
  • Innovative mindset for designing flexible program modalities, working with virtual platforms, and aligning certificate training with real-world employer needs.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), instructional technologies, and Open Education Resources (OER)
  • Experience conducting course learning outcome assessments and using assessment data to improve instruction
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in teaching using various course delivery formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online)
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with peers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including Native Hawaiian, adult students, students with disabilities, veterans, students with a wide range of abilities, and students from various cultural and economic backgrounds.
