Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (Remote 1099 Contractor)

About ELS Medical Billing Group, LLC ELS Medical Billing Group, LLC is a certified SBA Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) and HUBZone-certified healthcare services company specializing in medical billing, medical coding, revenue cycle management, provider enrollment, credentialing, and EMS billing services nationwide. We are currently expanding our healthcare staffing network and seeking experienced Medical Billing & Coding Specialists for upcoming client opportunities. This is a remote independent contractor (1099) position. Qualified candidates may be considered for current and future assignments based on client needs.

Responsibilities

• Submit electronic and paper insurance claims accurately and timely.
• Review medical documentation and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
• Review and resolve claim rejections and denials.
• Perform insurance follow-up with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
• Post insurance and patient payments accurately.
• Monitor accounts receivable and assist with aging account resolution.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits as required.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, payer regulations, and coding guidelines.
• Document account activity and follow established client workflows.
• Collaborate with billing, credentialing, and revenue cycle teams to maximize reimbursement.
• Participate in coding audits and identify documentation deficiencies when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of medical billing and/or medical coding experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance guidelines.
• Experience with claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and accounts receivable follow-up.
• Familiarity with EHR/EMR and practice management systems.
• Professional coding certification preferred (CPC, CCS, CCA, CAC, CPB, or equivalent).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Position Details
